General Dentistry in Toronto

General dentistry is generally used to refer to any dental work that improves the function (though not necessarily the appearance) of a person’s teeth, gums, and/or bite.

Dentistry isn’t just about white teeth. It’s more about the overall appearance and health of your teeth and gums, with the aim being an increased sense of well-being and better self-image.

General Dentistry Treatments

Tooth Colored fillings:

One of the simplest and least expensive cosmetic dental procedures available. Composite bonding is when the dental material, known as a composite resin is shaped and molded on your teeth to give you a straight white smile.

Microscope Guided Root canal treatment:

Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is made necessary when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and detect problems early) Sometimes deep restorations or trauma to a tooth may cause the nerve to be damaged to the point it needs root canal therapy, also. Once this occurs, the pulp becomes infected and can even extend through the root tip and begin to eat away at the surrounding bone.

By the time the pulp is infected, it must be treated and cannot heal on its own. It can even weaken the entire immune system. This is dangerous, not to mention very painful. Symptoms that the pulp has become infected may include sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, pain, swelling, pain to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth.

Sometimes, however, no symptoms are apparent, and the person is unaware of any problem until a checkup. A root canal is then performed to clean out the infected tooth pulp and disinfect the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to extract the tooth. Once the infection is resolved, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any further infection. Usually, a core build-up and crown are recommended for restoring a tooth that has had root canal therapy. Your dentist may suggest a CT scan prior to or during root canal treatment which will help in significantly improving the accuracy of diagnosis of disease and anatomy.

Teeth Whitening:

The most popular cosmetic dentistry procedure year after year, teeth whitening can vastly improve the look of your smile.

Dental Veneers:

Dental veneers are custom-made from porcelain or resin composite and are meant to change the colour, shape, size, or length of your teeth's appearance once bonded in place

Dental Crowns:

Also referred to as caps, a dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over your tooth to restore its natural appearance. They are used for the protection of a weak tooth that has suffered extensive decay or to hold a fractured tooth together.

Bridges:

Dental bridges commonly referred to as partials are used to bridge the gap created by missing teeth. Bridges are made of alloy, porcelain, gold, or a combination.

Smile Makeover:

A smile makeover is when you receive one or more cosmetic procedures to improve your smile. A combination of veneers, implants, whitening, or any of the other procedures listed above would be considered a smile makeover.

Full mouth Reconstruction:

Also commonly referred to as full mouth restoration. This procedure focuses not only on the aesthetics of your smile but also the function of your jaw, and it's supporting structures. Things like your bite, muscles, and bone structure are analysed, and if corrective procedures are needed, they are recommended.
